A grey heron we met in Stangenhagen, Brandenburg in the early hours. Actually we waited for cranes but the heron is a bird, has feathers, so why not.

Fehmarn 2014
A bunch of pictures of the Excursion to Fehmarn 2014. Visited the water-bird-sanctuary wallnau and the nature around it.
The highlight for me was a foto of an Eurasian bittern. They live really hidden and move rarely but make an really unique sound which reminds me of dubstep.
The Long One

Long Tailed Tits are a really busting kind if burds. Following them with a long lense throught dense branches is a horror. And having only low light cause of rain is not helping. Anyway. Really beautiful, very small birds.
Cormorant

Rather rainy day in Ikerbruch. But after some waiting a cormorant appeared and showed his fishing skills. He was somewhat more effective then the great crested grebe nearby.
Common Starlings

I had having dinner as a starling arrived on my balcony. He sat there on the handrail and started singing. After some moments a second appeared and watched him singing. They ran around the handrail, flew aweay a few meters and returned. Are they going to built a nest here? Anyway, what beautiful birds.
Marsh Harriers

I was really happy to see the pair of Western Marsh Harriers (Circus aeruginosus) back in their territories. I already found them last year and was able to watch them raising their chicks. Now they are rebuilding their nest which is between high vegetation on the ground. Western Marsh Harriers are rare and had difficulties finding fitting territories which led to nesting far from lakes in fields where the farmers killed lots of them by accident.

The Great Crested Crebe Podiceps cristatus has an interesting courtship perfectly mirroring the partners movements. It ends with running over the water. This one did that alone.

Hating Swan

This male-swan really hate having other birds nearby. Following them across the lake until they finally move they ass away. But, its spring, birds are only humans, too ;)

We got spring very early this year. You can already see the greylag gooses engaging in their partner flights. They start to do that when the partners find eachother and “hang around” together rather than with the whole flock.

Its an interesting way over the nature-sanctuary “Moorbruchwiesen” in Hannover, Germany to the lake “Steinhuder Meer” . But it was better than expected.
