I was walking around a Lake in Berlin, beautiful sunset. But its damn cold, my hands freeze holding the metal lense… A single cormorant was fishing.
Unfortunetly i cut the wing.. but in the action it’s hard todo, right?

Some Tits
Look, these are some nice great and blue tits!
Red-backed shrike
Red-backed shrike like to use to thorns to kill and “store” insects. Usally those from plants. They start to like all kind of different spikes as well to use for this purpose.
Sparrows
Saw them while watching do cormorants.

Cormorants
Before i moved to Berlin i never had seen this bird in a distance where you could see the beautiful patterns on their wings. They are probably one of my favourite bird.
Compared to other city-birds they are still very reclusive and don´t like to be approached. I know of bigger populations on Wannsee (for example Insel Imchen) and smaller ones near Karow. But i still don´t know where the birds that appear in Schlosspark Charlottenburg come from. There can be seen quite often on the Spree-River but opposing to the populations they never hunt together there on that places.
Courtship I
As written before, still testing Cameras. This ones were taken with a borrowed 7D MKII. I like the AF System, it´s a lot more advanced than the one of 7D MKI, but still suffering from the same “problems” when taking pictures directly into the sunlight like these ones. So basically i focused manually.

Common Kestrel
I am currently thinkin on buying a new camera. My old one has some weird issues with the center AF Point. So i rented a Canon 5D MK III . Its a really nice camera. The AF System is fast, Image Quality is “good” (even if not *that* much better in my opinion). The Problem is the very very slow sequence. I probably can´t live with that. So – Result will be the 7D MKII or the new 1DX. Can I afford it? Yes. But do I really want it? Rather not.
This Common Kestrels where my “test subjects” for the camera. They are living in the heart of Berlin. It´s even easier to find them in the city then in the countryside. This pictures show 2 different female Kestrels. The second one had big success while hunting.
First Cranes
The first migrating cranes gather together with the local ones. Today I already counted 500. I guess there are around 5000 cranes in the area. In a month there will be 130.000.

A mute swan on Tegeler Lake, Berlin. Its happily washing itself, working the wings and tries to impress.
Little Grebe
A little Grebe in Malchow, Berlin. I didnt know these guys in the nuptial plumage so I firt mistake them as red necked grebe.

White Wagtail
I cant believe thats this the first white wagtail I upload here. I see them really often, but don’t bother to take a photo of them.
Long Tailed Tit
Or “Bird on a Stick” because of their enormous tail while having a shape of an ball.
Great Reed Warbler
The biggest of our european warblers. Its unique in its voice and appearance (just by the size). Is singing most of the times quite hidden or at the side of the reed you cant see because its the water side…
Red Kite
Red Kites are beautiful birds. They have very long wings in comparison to their “small body” which is around the same size as an bussard. They eat everything they find and is not dirt or a plant. In this case a farmer was in the process of mowing his grass. And all birds of prey love when this is happening.
Starlings
Busy parents need to feed their chicks. Very exhausting times, but the children will be ready to fly out in a few days.
And as a last picture – parent says “noooo”.
Black Kite
Female Black Kite in Fahrland, Potsdam. We think its pregnant.
Colorcontrast
Most of our birds our grey, brown, black. But this one brings some color in the local avifauna.
